The Raised Track Project
Our second railway is now taking shape at Pettypool
In the early part of 2009, a small group of members from our society showed an interest in building a new railway at our Pettypool site. The railway would be of a raised track construction, would compliment our existing railway and allow easier operation of smaller locomotives. After months of planning, a route was surveyed and mapped out. It all looked do-able and so the project was started.
Just like our ground level railway, the new track would be dual gauge, but catering only for 5" and 3½". Construction would be kept simple, using concrete blocks and welded rail section.
Unlike our existing ground level track, passengers on the new track will sit-a-stride of the running lines, providing more stability when riding on the smaller gauge railway line.
